I have been reading Through the Valley of the Kwai by Ernest Gordon; this is the book that the movie To End All Wars was based on. What an excellent example of what the influence of faith and of the Scriptures can do, both collectively and in an individual soul. I have quoted in the following article some excerpts.
The scene is a Japanese prison camp in WWII. The author is writing from personal first-hand experience and describing how the prison went from being a moral mess (as described in the first excerpt) to being a place where the prisoners had hope and purpose in helping others. Read for yourself:
