Re: Harvest Haven Happenings
Dear Jeannie,
Thanks for the recipe. Did you get a chance to make the Chicken Masala recipe?
If so, a couple of questions:
1. Did you see the instruction in the recipe about: Discard remaining marinade? Perhaps the HH cats would like some spice in their food.
2. Do you like spicy food and was the Harvest Haven garam masala spicy enough for you? Can we simply double up on this spice mix if we like our food very spicy?
3. Can we barbecue the chicken at lower temperature instead of using an oven? It's going to be sunny and 10 C in Mississauga (and Lethbridge) tomorrow and I am looking forward to try this new recipe.
Sincerely,
Michael

Hi Michael,
I have not made the recipe. Sean made it, maybe he can answer your questions.

Hi Jeannie,
Thank you for your article, 'Antidepressant Microbes In Soil: How Dirt Makes You Happy.'
As a young kid back in the '70s and in the Cook Islands, everybody seemed happy working on the land. My parents were always planting or harvesting root crops after work whilst my brother and I had to rake the fallen frangipani leaves or drag the fallen coconut tree leaves unto the pile of rubbish. This is followed by a lot of weeding around the garden bed of flowers..... a daily chore after school and just before dinner.
There was a healthy competition between neighbours and villages to see who had the best looking and cleanest garden. Besides, the Health Inspector always came around each village to see who had the cleanest yards. There were bragging rights to the village that was announced as the winner on the 'wireless.'
These chores were simply put in place to prevent any mosquito infestations or dengue fever outbreaks.
Looking at the old photos, we were happier and slimmer.

Re: Harvest Haven Happenings
A few years ago, my children and I were offered a place to stay on a friend's farm until I could get on my feet to provide for them.
Working daily in the dirt and sun cured a many years long depression I had suffered from and I also lost over 100 lbs that year, most of it at the farm.
Now when anyone asks advice about depression, I always mention gardening, and getting their hands in the dirt as the highest quality of treatment.
I can't dig in my garden this year, as my neighbors' cats have been using it as a litter box, and I am pregnant.

That's a nice van with even better graphics. I hope the next one (in 10 years) will be all-electric (battery) with solar panels.
I hope you are ok James after getting shot. Perhaps it was with a camera.

Dear Jeannie,
In the recent post you mention:
"Martin and Jeannie like to take a few minutes to relax with a cup of tea before bed."
Most teas contain some caffeine, which might keep a person awake. What type of tea do you drink in this case?
Thanks for your critical review of the film (What the Health) and setting the record straight. It would seem that even large media outlets (like CNN and many more) are selling this type of fake news or reporting to further their self-righteousness agendas. I suppose we all need to be on guard against these type of liars, whose master is the Chief Liar - Satan.

What we're drinking isn't true 'tea.' Martin drinks roasted dandelion root and I have a few different herbal teas, my favourite is spearmint.

Re: Harvest Haven Happenings
I also watched what the health, and it left me walking away wanting to avoid dairy and cutback on meats. My wife all together wants to avoid eating meats and dairy (which is good for right now, based on it being motivation to eat healthy as well as everyone getting on board with coconut milk and almond milk). Also, her body feels like crap when eating dairy and beef.
Too much meat can be a bad thing, especially beef because how heavy it sits. I would recommend organic or natural farm raised meats as these companies pump these animals full of garbage. Also, someone that has major health problems, may be a good idea to go plant based for a period of time.
To avoid meat all together for fear is a lack of faith, as God's food laws declares what is clean and unclean, and He will sanctify it
1 Timothy 4:4-5 KJVS
For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: [5] For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
I thought the movie was informative, but didn't like the scare tactic agenda. I can say based on experience, your body does feel pretty amazing going mainly organic / non-gmo plant based eating.

Re: Harvest Haven Happenings
I read your response and review on, "What the Health." It was funny that I too watched the documentary just the other day. I personally felt that the documentary was skewed and lacked a good argument.
As a Polynesian, we are brought up eating large portions of meat, especially red meat, even for breakfast and every meal of the day. We'd have our meat with a root crop such as Taro or cooked green banana's with coconut milk with plenty of salt.
Today, my family [i.e. my extended family] are obese with high blood pressure and suffer gout.
Personally, I try to eat the way my great grand parents use to eat. That is, eating plenty of fruits, vegetables and minimal meat. My great grand parents ate fish, no chicken, pork or beef...none around at the time. Basically, it was 90% vegetables and fruit and 10% fish. And, not all meals had meat in it. People, worked and lived off the land and ocean. Part, of being happy included toiling the land, fishing and eating together with family and friends....and the food was totally organic.
70+ years ago, chemicals were never used on the land until commercialised agriculture just after World War II. Now, one of the islands where I was born (Rarotonga), fish on the reef are now poisoned by the leaching of fertiliser and chemicals into the ocean. So, you can't eat fish off the reef any more.
I know I cannot exactly replicate the diet my great grand parents had. But, I do notice that I don't feel sluggish when I eat plenty of fruits and vegetables (+ nuts too). I tend to eat meat just 3-4 times per week, compared to 21+ times per week just a few years ago. I simply enjoy not feeling heavy and being weighed down after each meal. Eating meat, though my portions a lot smaller is just a nice treat to have with family and friends.
About a third of my food is now organic and slowly switching to full organic as I can afford it. Some of the food have been planted at home and without chemicals.
What I have experienced is the great joy of eating food from the fruits of my own labour (from my wife's small garden)....and eggs from sons own chicken [... before the fox took her].
And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God. Ecclesiastes 3:13 KJV
Heathy living is not just about clean food .... but getting your hands dirty too!
...... And, eating in the company of good friends and family.

Does God want you to eat good food? Is He cheap? Does He compel you to eat Satan's food? Is it up to you to afford to do the right or is it up to Him to provide?Tang Williams wrote:And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.
