About Hell and the worms in Mark

Dear Victor and Paul,

I have just came across your website and I must confess I am intrigued! I have been reading about the diabolical doctrines and I am astonished at what I have learned. About Hell, I was believing and agreeing with every thing you said until I began to think about the worm that "dies not" and the fire which is "not quenched. I can see the unquenched fire being a representative of cleansing and in a sense the worm also. The worm eats until all the corpse is devoured. Bit something still seems amiss, the way it reads it sounds so literal. I was reading about Mary Baxters false ideas of Hell and when the subject of the "worms" came up I was disappointed because you did not refer to Mark 9:44,46, or 48. I feel this needs to be explained to support your ideas on the matter. I am one who also saw the evils of the modern church and I came out of it and the Lord speaks with me as well. I plan to pray very much about this Hell issue. I hope to receive a reply from you soon.

Hi Justin,

You find the following passage challenging:

Mark 9:41-49 MKJV
(41) For whoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in My Name, because you belong to Christ, truly I say to you, He shall not lose his reward.
(42) And whoever shall offend one of these little ones who believe in Me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged around his neck and he were cast into the sea.
(43) And if your hand offends you, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed than to have two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched
(44) where their worm dies not, and the fire is not quenched.
(45) And if your foot offends you, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life lame than to have two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched
(46) where their worm dies not, and the fire is not quenched.
(47) And if your eye offends you, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter into the Kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes to be cast into hell fire
(48) where their worm dies not, and the fire is not quenched.
(49) For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.

So if you're going to take these things literally, must the person actually cut off their feet or gouge out their eyes to enter Heaven? Will self-mutilation save you from being tormented in a literal fire, time without end? Do you really believe that's what God is saying?

And if everyone is salted with fire, which is a good thing, how can you believe that something bad is the end? Isn't Christ the Omega? Don't the Scriptures tell us He will save ALL of Israel, even after they were His enemies because of their unbelief?

“For God has shut up all in unbelief, so that He might show mercy to all” (Romans 11:32 MKJV).

Paul
