Here's a story that I think you'll find particularly interesting (Join the discussion if you will; see what you and I have to say:

"Jews and Christians have a long history of difficult relations, It has been entirely one-sided with Jews as the perpetual victim, persecuted for our beliefs."

This statement is completely untrue, it has NOT been entirely one sided with the Jews always the victims. Do you know how Christianity spread so far in such a short time? Early in the first century, those Jews who accepted Yeshua as the true Messiah were persecuted by their fellow Jews even unto death. Thousands of Jews did accept, and believed strongly enough that no level of persecution could deter them. They were treated horrifically, stoned to death, driven out into the world. My own 54th Great Grandfather, Joseph ben Matthat of Arimathea, a member of the Sanhedrin in that time, was part of a group that was set adrift in the Mediteranean with no food, no oars, no way to steer or navigate. The religious leaders who did this to them did it so that they could say, "No, we didn't kill them, we watched them sail away . . ." when in fact, they didn't expect or intend for the group to survive. But the Lord was with them, and they made it to the coast of France, where some stayed. My ancestor went on to the British Isles, where he had business contacts who helped him. Thousands of first century Jews who accepted Yeshua were targetted and driven out by various means. They spread the story of Jesus (Yeshua) where ever the Lord let them find safety. This was apparently the Lord's plan, and reason for allowing such horrific persecution.

The same persecution has continued down through history. Even now, in this century, if a Jewish person studies the hebrew scriptures and comes to the conclusion that Yeshua is the prophecied messiah, they are quite often rejected or ostracised by their familes or communities. Many keep their Christian faith a secret because of the retribution they know will be inevitable. I see their stories everyday. This is a continuation of the same persecution that the Jews have commited against 'Christians' for 2,000 years.

We 'Christians' are not a strange, foreign race. We aren't a strange foreign religion. We are you. That's why we love you so much. That's why Christian America voted en masse for Donald Trump, because he's so strongly pro-Israel.

In my own geneology I have ancestors from the tribes of Judah, Levi and Dan, and the Lenehan family crest contains the banner of the tribe of Naphtali. I have traced my family tree back to King David. I am Israel. And I am a Christian Irish woman. I am the progeny of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And the only reason my ancestor, who was a member of the 1st century Sanhedrin, ended up in the British Isles joining his family to the Tuatha de Daanan (Tribe of Dan) previously exiled there, was because of the persecution he recieved at the hands of his brothers, the other Jews.

Thank you for expressing your opinion. It was very enlightening. Here are some points I want to make. I would separate Jewish christianity of the pre Constantine days from post the Roman appropriation of it. Constantine and the Church greatly changed what was and turned it into something that not only persecuted Jews, but disconnected Christianity from its roots. For me, if someone like you tells me they believe Jesus is the Messiah, I may disagree, but you and I are discussing things within a mustual context. I beleive that is the point Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz is saying. We can have a dialogue internally about things, but the moment that dialogue is exported externally to the Christian world then it takes this debate and turns it into "Hey you guys need to believe in so and so..." well then that doesn't work and becomes offensive.

David Mark - thank you. I couldn't agree more regarding the change in the church after the conversion of Constantine. Those early Christians were so relieved to have their faith sanctioned by Rome so that they weren't being thrown to the lions and similar fates anymore, but it was actually one of the worst things that could have happened. Constantine completely changed things, adding so many elements of paganism, and making himself the authority rather than the Lord being the authority. And so many of the modern churches were born of the post-Martin Luther reform movement, that they basically came from the Catholic church's distorted, corrupted model. I believe that Yeshua is the messiah, but I don't believe any of the modern Christian churches are teaching things as He would have wanted them to. I believe that anyone is better off walking alone, just yourself and the Lord and your scriptures, rather than to be in a church that is teaching things that are outside of the Lord's will. Those through the centuries that have persecuted the Jews were definitely NOT following the teachings of Yeshua, they were actually doing the opposite of His message of peace and Love. It is a heartbreaking tragedy.

Will investigate more when I'm back at my computer tonight. Thanks for sharing Victor!!

This sounds odd, I believe I could be related to this woman. I come from a line of Lenahans and a line of Irish Christians with Jewish ties.

Pretty amazing and wonderful!! There's a lot of mystery surrounding that side of the family, and I only just learned shortly before finding TPOT that I was an Jew in the flesh. If there's any truth to it all, family lines are an interesting subject matter--not that flesh ties are as strong as spiritual ones. Still, I have always possessed a unique affinity for David...
