05/25/17: We have a new Teaching:

Three Days and Three Nights

There is a common understanding in nominal Christianity that Jesus Christ was laid in the tomb on Friday evening and raised from the dead Sunday morning. But the Lord said He would be in the earth for three days and three nights. Who do you think is right? The Scriptures tell us exactly what happened. Read more…

Thank you Martin,

For writing this article. I have never really given this topic a lot of thought.
Now that I am studying this article, many questions have come up. No wonder the theologians are confused :) . Can someone please help;

1. The so called "Last Supper" that Jesus had with His disciples, was this the Passover Seder and on what day did it occur (Third day of the week (Tuesday)?

2. In your article you wrote:

"Fifth day of the week (Thursday) – His first full day in the belly of the Earth, which began on Wednesday evening. It began with the Passover meal being eaten, and was a High Sabbath day. The women couldn’t have bought or prepared spices at any time during this day."

If this rather was the Passover Seder, what was it that Jesus and His disciples were doing earlier?

3. In your article you wrote:

"Sixth day of the week (Friday) – His second full day in the belly of the Earth. Not a Sabbath day. The women bought and prepared the spices before evening when the weekly Sabbath day began."

Why are they preparing spices, for what purpose, since Jesus was already buried on the Fourth day of the week (Wednesday)?

As you can see I am confused and need more details in the timeline. Any help would be appreciated.

Sincerely,
Michael

The "Last Supper" that Jesus ate with His disciples was on Tuesday night.

The disciples either knew that Jesus wanted to eat with them early, as many rabbis in that day were accustomed to doing with their disciples, or they began thinking about preparations for the meal to following evening and Jesus expedited the whole process by having a place prepared and ready ahead of time by design.

Either way, it's clear in John 18:28 (below), that the Passover meal was yet to be eaten,

"Then the Jews led Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness the Jews did not enter the palace; they wanted to be able to eat the Passover."

The women prepared their own spices when Jesus was already laid in the grave because they loved Him. They had no opportunity to anoint His body themselves and they wanted to honor Him and have closure. It would have been very traumatic to have Him took and killed and hurriedly buried without being able to say goodbye. It was understandable behaviour.

Hope this helps
