The True Day of Worship

Chinese – English

We got this question from a site reader:

Which is the true day of worship?

Paul’s reply:

Hi Magati,

The true day of worship is today, for all those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ:

“For He says, ‘In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.’ Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2 ESV).

Hebrews 3:12-15 ESV
(12) Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.
(13) But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
(14) For we share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end.
(15) As it is said, “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”

“For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness” (1 Thessalonians 5:5 ESV).

1 Thessalonians 5:8-10 ESV
(8) But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.
(9) For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
(10) Who died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we might live with Him.

So if we believe in the Lord and live with Him, we’re worshipping Him all the time.

“Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Do not quench the Spirit” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-19 MKJV).

But if you’re asking what day is the Sabbath, the day of rest, that is Saturday, and more specifically, by God’s definition, from Friday evening to Saturday evening.

You can read more about this in our Sabbath section.

Interestingly enough, the Sabbath is never called the day of worship in the Scriptures, only the day of rest. That’s because the worship of God isn’t about a time or day of the week, but a new creature and state of being that comes by faith.

“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such to worship Him” (John 4:23 MKJV).
